Maddie's Art

Maddie was asked to draw an eagle for a poster going to a soldier and here are her drawings. I am so proud, she is only 9!

Mom of the Year Award--Not!

Well I have had two pretty bad Mommy moments this week.

Story One:
My son Michael is very adventurous and very capable! My mother warned me that I was asking for trouble naming him Michael. However the name just suited him and a Michael is now what we've got! Yesterday I had hopefully my first and last call to the cops on him! I will explain..... It was about 11 in the morning and Jared was just leaving for work and I was just getting out of the shower. Jared called to me to let me know he was leaving and to lock the door. My big mistake was thinking that I could do it after I got dressed right?! After all he was in the play room playing with Maddie (she is homeschooling for now). A few minutes later Maddie came into my room while I was making my bed. We chatted for a minute while she helped me finish. I told her to go get Michael and we could start making lunch. Just as she walks out of my room and I grab my pants the doorbell rings. I throw on my jeans and run to the door and there is my son, and wouldn't you guess he was butt naked! (I promise he had clothes on just a few minutes earlier! We are really trying to work on this!) Right behind him is a woman I have never seen completely out of breath and a man coming down the street. Apparently he had run all the way down the street to the stop sign (10 houses or so) and taken a left down the next street. The man saw him and started to chase after him. The woman was doing yard work and thought she could cut him off--NO! He is a fast little bugger and she chased him down while the man called the police. Michael ran all the way home and rang the doorbell and the woman had not yet been able to catch him. Luckily for us he seemed to know where he was going. He thought the whole thing was too much fun! I was so embarrassed and shaken by the whole thing and then the cops showed up. Fortunately they were pretty nice about the whole debacle and I definitely learned my lesson. There is no waiting to lock the door EVER again!

Story Two:
If the first story isn't a bad enough example of my lack of mothering skills this one should do the trick. We were running a little late for school and I realized Naomi did not have her lunch so I ran inside and grabbed it out of the fridge. She has this really cute lunch box but everyday she requests a grocery sack lunch because she would rather just throw it all away at the end. Doesn't sound so bad huh? Well later that afternoon I went to grab the chicken I had put in the fridge to thaw the day before and start dinner prep. Funny thing, no chicken but wouldn't you know, there was Naomi's lunch right in it's spot. I called her teacher and as it turns out I sent Naomi to school that day with 4 pieces of raw chicken for lunch!!!
