Science Fair Cont.

Science Fair Cont.

I am not too skilled at the blogging stuff so I should have put this post first but if your reading this post scroll down and start at the first science fair post and then read this one.

So a few nights before the school science fair we were far from being done and we were finding it very difficult to accomplish both girls' science fair projects.  Maddie, her dad and I decided that she would postpone entering the science fair for next year.  However after an hour or so we all felt terrible and decided to carry on.  We worked all night but made major headway and saw a light at the end of a tunnel.  As it turns out it is a good thing we did not quit because ......

Maddie won 1st place for 5th grade and BEST OVERALL!!

Naomi won best use of confection (we think she got robbed) :)

Just when we thought it was over we found out she was invited to go to the district/regional science fair.  There she won 2nd place along with best use of water and mathematics.  This win sent her to the state science fair.

We had little hope that she would win, we were hopeful though for a honorable mention.  When we arrived for the awards ceremony we saw this big purple ribbon on her board.  This meant she had won something but we did not know what.

Turns out she won 1st place in state!!!  We are so proud of her!  What a great lesson on never giving up!  I know many of you are thinking with a family of scientist this is no surprise.  Your probably thinking one of them came up with this winning project idea and her Dad must have helped her!  Well, your wrong!!!  Maddie and I came up with this idea and after one day of Dad trying to explain the viscosity formula and Maddie giving me that "Help Me" look I use to give my own mother I jumped in and her and I worked together until we both figured it out!  Who would have thought her first year she would take it all the way!

Can you believe it, I am updating my blog!!!

Science Fair

Okay so I know it has been forever, and I know I have a lot of excuses however I won't try to justify I will just try to do better!  So much has happened in the last little while that I have been a little overwhelmed by the idea of what to blog about first so I am going to start with some of the big events and then day by day I hope to add some of the other stuff until I am caught up.

So here goes blog worthy event #1:

Maddie and Naomi decided to do the science fair this year.  Sounds easy enough, after all they do come from a long line of scientist! (Grandpa, Uncle and Dad)  Well this became quite an eventful experience.  It started with the difficulty of only having two weeks to develop, research, experiment and complete 2 science fair projects!

Here are some prep pix:  (Maddie measured the velocity of a marble falling through household liquids to eventually figure out the viscosity of those liquids after using the formula for viscosity, "Magic Marbles Make Marvelous Measurements" and Naomi used the scientific method to determine how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.  We got everyone involved!)

Play time!

We have a great back yard for playing in the snow complete with a small sledding hill!  We had a blast!

Our first snow!

The kids were thrilled to walk out the door to go to school and find it snowing like crazy!  We have never lived anywhere that it snows so this was a BIG deal!

Naomi lost her first tooth!

Here we go!
Now she is starting get nervous!

It came out lickety split!  She is so excited!

Thanksgiving Day Craft Gone Wild

We had a lot of fun making these turkey's.  Jared's aunt suggested the idea and amazingly, Michael's was the best!  We had some new good friends come over, the Vonfelt family.  They are perfect friends for my kids!  Aiden is 4 almost 5, Meredith is 9 and Sophia just turned 12.

Michael with his favorite puzzle

He puts this puzzle together at least 5 times a day all by himself.  It is a 48 piece puzzle.  It is so cute, he just loves dinosaurs.  He now knows by site the names of 15 different dinosaurs and ready to learn more!
